About Me JIM OUTRAM B.A.(Hons.), P.G.C.E I am an active & passionate musician, presenter & technology enthusiast with over 25 years professional experience gained through over 3,000 gigs (to date!!) ​ I have a wide experience of teaching, having written, led and delivered courses encompassing Performing Arts, Media & Music Technology and I have taught students as young as 3 years old up to more mature students (65 +) ​ I have played in several professional bands covering styles as diverse as Folk, Pop, Rock, Latin, Jazz, Funk as well as working with orchestras on musical theatre projects and I have also worked as a radio presenter, DJ, and karaoke host. YORKSHIRE ENGLAND, UK (1974 - 2007) I was born on 16th April 1974 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. I developed an interest in music as a young child. ​ My father played piano and my brother was a DJ and so I was exposed to a wide variety of sounds from an early age. ​ I began my formal music studies in 1980 on piano, then flute and later studying voice. I joined my first band, JACUZZI JAMES as keyboardist, formed with my school mates and we performed at school shows. I regularly performed at school events in the orchestra, choir and wind band as flautist, pianist and singer and occasionally in an acting role for the drama department. ​ I joined STAC POLY, a folk/ pop band, as keyboardist. This band comprised a mixture of teachers and students that performed local gigs round Sheffield. ​ I obtained GCSE and A Level Music qualifications from Wales High School and graduated in 1996 from Bretton Hall College of the University Of Leeds attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Popular Music Studies and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education . PEMBROKESHIRE WALES, UK (1996 - 2007) I moved from my home-town of Sheffield in 1996 to take up post as lecturer in Performing Arts/ Music Technology/ Media at Pembrokeshire College (Wales, UK), specialising in performance, live sound production and digital audio recording. As well as setting up the Music Technology courses and recording facilities at Pembrokeshire College, I presented a weekly local radio show on 102.5 Radio Pembrokeshire and set up and managed my own recording studio (The Academy Studio) where I recorded local musicians as well as my own compositions. I joined the teaching team of Haverfordwest Music Academy in 2005 offering studies in Piano, Keyboard, Recording & Composition as well as offering support for students pursuing GCSE Music - my students attained high grades with a 100% pass rate! ​ Between 1996 and 2007 I performed many gigs at venues across Wales, in professional bands such as NIGHTCREW (pop band), CICADA (Latin-Jazz) , INNER URGE (Jazz quintet), THE JAZZ MASTERS (Jazz quintet) TAKE 2 (Vocal Duo) as well as performing on stage in musical theatre productions such as SINGING IN THE RAIN (with Haverfordwest Operatic Society) and acting as musical director on LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS , GREASE & MACBETH (with the Merlin Theatre Company) 2007 NEWSPAPER ARTICLE PAPHOS CYPRUS, EU (2007 - to date) In 2007 I moved to Paphos (Cyprus) with my wife, and fellow musician, Maria to pursue our careers as professional musicians In Cyprus I have worked as a full-time musician & presenter in the vocal duo TAKE 2 and as a karaoke host & DJ as well as continuing to teach part-time as part of the teaching teams at Limassol Theatre Arts School (LTAS) & The Learning Centre Peyia (TLC) ​ During the LOCKDOWN of 2020 (16th March until 9th June) I used my time to write, record & produce and album of original songs/videos - which can be found on YouTube by clicking here: 2013 NEWSPAPER ARTICLE SuperJim I can be your hero Super Jim Is it a bird? MY SONGBOOK I have over 300,000 tracks with over 75,000 unique songs, some of which I have created myself so you will not find them at other Karaoke shows hosted elsewhere! ​ As you can imagine, with this many songs to choose from, a printed karaoke book would BE HUGE and would also be out of date as soon as it is printed because I ADD NEW SONGS EVERY MONTH (often more frequently!!) ​ I have multiple versions of the most popular songs manufactured by different professional karaoke production companies such as ZOOM , KARAOKE VERSION , SUNFLY , MR. You hand in your request too late (i.e. after the host has said “No More Requests.”) You are rude, argumentative or abusive. You interfere with the running of the show (i.e. hassling the host, or other singers). You bring drinks or cigarettes up to the stage. (it is unsafe to do so and you face risk of electrocution) In MY opinion, you could cause damage to our equipment through improper use or behaviour. In MY opinion, you could injure yourselves or others. You fail to come to the stage quickly when called by the host. You fail to adhere to any instructions given to you by the host. You put in too many requests at once for the same singer (there is a queueing system and everyone gets a fair turn – how I run the queue & manage the time IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE). You are impatient – i.e. You repeatedly ask “When is it my turn?”. ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO OUR EQUIPMENT MUST BE PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER(S) RESPONSIBLE. ANY CUSTOMER MAY BE ASKED TO PAY THEIR BILLS AND LEAVE THE VENUE BY THE MANAGEMENT OR SECURITY TEAM SHOULD THEY CAUSE CONFRONTATION WITH THE HOST. Many thanks for your consideration & co-operation. Jim Outram (The Music Man) HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY The HEALTH & SAFTEY of EVERYONE attending our shows is our number one priority. In order to prevent the contamination and spread of any virus we will be taking the following steps:- All microphones will be sanitised by the host using specialist antibacterial microphone spray prior to the first use at the show and at the end of every event. ALL customers wishing to sing using the hosts microphone(s) will need:- THEIR OWN REUSABLE MICROPHONE WINDSHIELD Windshields will need to be fitted to the microphone prior to any performance and removed afterwards. REUSABLE WINDSHIELDS CAN BE PURCHASED (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY) FOR THE PRICE OF €1.00 (Windshields are also available locally and on Amazon ) NO WIND SHIELD means NO PARTICIPATION unfortunately. Customers may wish to use their own microphone (I will supply the XLR microphone cable). This is permissible on the condition that:- (a) The Microphone has an XLR connection (3 pins at the end of the mic) (b) If the microphone has a switch, the customer switches the microphone on prior to performance RADIO MICROPHONES BROUGHT BY THE CUSTOMER ARE NOT ALLOWED Where more than one performer is on stage, we ask that you try to remain a minimum of 2 metres apart. POST CORONA VIRUS RESTRICTIONS:- We now allow a maximum of 3 people on stage at any time. Cigarettes and open containers (glasses or bottles) containing liquids are prohibited from the stage/ performance area. We will continue to try our best to keep you safe and entertained and apologise for any inconvenience or disruption to your enjoyment or participation the above policy presents to you.
